OK...so we were going to go down to Payne's Creek after the area had to survive Frances and Charley.  We were hopeful that it might be open.  So me, Coop and Angus...headed out in the truck down Hwy 17.  Just after we passed Fort Meade we had to stop and rescue a big turtle who had just got run over...he was trapped in the meridian of Hwy 17 with nowhere to go..and was on the road, .nearly getting hit again.

This is a pic of the poor wee boy just after we picked him up from the center of the road.  You can see where the car hit him and scraped his back with the undercarriage.  He seemed pretty up for it though.  Cooper helped keep him in the back of the truck when he climbed up on the gravel you can see at the front of the truck bed.  I was driving down the highway when I could see him in my mirror climbing out of the bed, Cooper barked at him and went across to the back window and that was enough for him to get down and stay at the back of the bed till we got to the park.

Here's what we encountered when were going to get into the park and release our little buddy.  It wasn't padlocked so we just went in anyway....hope the parks folk wouldn't be pissed.

This is where we let him go, the wee guy was ready to go and seemed to swim off quite happily.  I guess this level of road flooding was what shut the parks.  There was no way we could have taken the truck thru this.

Coopies took his Auntie Sheena to see some of his favorite places in Payne's Creek.  This is the old fort site, that got taken over by the indians.  It was a beautiful 88 degrees in late November.

Sheena said that this was the first time she'd ever crossed a river with alligators in it using a little suspension bridge that was shaking with every step she took.  Cooper said, just get movin'!!
