Formal (and not so formal) Dog/Human Training
One thing that we did from the start is made sure that we knew how to
communicate with each other. He uses a form of positive reinforcement
and I use a similar form too, so we both see eye to eye on this.He is
very attentive and is usually very good at listening. I have not taken
him to formal obedience training yet, but that will come, if for nothing
else than the socialization aspect, as his training at home has went well.
We now have a good grasp of each other's habits and traits and pretty much
accommodate them He has also taught me the particular version of doggy
logic and linguistics that he subscribes to and I think I've got it. I
don't think that agility work really suits him though, as he is a bit
clumsy.

Frisbee
Cooper just loves the sight of a frisbee, if you are anywhere near a
park or open space and you pick one up all you hear is Cooper shouting
at the top of his voice, "throw the damn thing, c'mon what ya
waiting for". Our favorite frisbee park is Callendar
park, which is fairly close to where we live here in Falkirk. We have to be careful that we don't overdo it,
because of Cooper's accident, and the pins that were put in his hip
bones, but overall, he seems to be fine.

Chillin'
with his Daddy
Cooper is a definite observer and watcher, he doesn't miss much.
One of the things he loves to do is to sit with me outdoors and watch the world go by.
Cooper definitely has a lot of patience and has no problems waiting
and taking his time. He is like the old southern hound
dog who likes to sit at his master's feet on the porch while he's rocks
the hours away. He's a very content and happy wee boy. When
he first moved to Scotland and went up his first mountain he just sat
there and stared out over the vista for ages, you could see that he
loved being up there. |

Go for Walks
Now that he's well accustomed to going out for walks in the colder
weather, he loves his little
jaunts to the local parks. Our daily walk round Callendar Park is our staple and then we go exploring
the country around Falkirk together discovering new places to go, like the
really beautiful country park at North
Third Reservoir. Cooper is probably the best traveled
dog in our area. We go hiking in the parks here and in the
surrounding counties almost every day in life, this keeps us fit and
happy and educates us to what the natural Scotland looks like. |
